Cayman’s Best… sushi

There are only a handful of Japanese and sushi restaurants on island, but the ones chosen for this list are my absolute favourites. They all serve delicious and fresh sushi, but are quite unique in their price point and menu offerings. Read more about each restaurant to see which ones wet your appetite.

Anchor & Den at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort

Located in the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort, Anchor & Den, is proud of its global food offerings. Upon being seated guests are given an ‘All-Day’ menu, as well as a ‘Sushi and Raw Bar’ menu. The sushi menu may seem limited, with only a dozen rolls or so, but they are always fresh, well-prepared and incredibly creative. In short, don’t expect to find your standard California Roll here! Some of my favourites include the stacked Hurricane Roll, crunchy Shrimp Popcorn Roll and the spicy Dragon Roll. Taikun at the Ritz-Carlton

Taikun at the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman is the only high-end Japanese restaurant on island. Their cocktails are whimsical, the service is exceptional and their sushi uses only the best ingredients for their classic and signature rolls. The sushi menu features nigiri, sashimi and maki rolls, and guests can order a la carte, or pay a set price for a 3-course prix fixe or 5-course Omakase (chef’s selection). In addition to this, Taikun has the largest sake collection on island and they grate fresh wasabi tableside that ensures a one-of-a-kind experience. There are so many droolworthy choices, but try the Spicy Tuna Tataki Roll, Salmon Rice Foie Gras Nigiri and the Volcano Roll. Yoshi Sushi

Yoshi Sushi has been the affordable, go-to sushi spot for residents and visitors for years. Their Japanese menu is the largest on island and includes appetisers, soups, rice bowls, hibachi & robata skillet dishes, while their sushi menu consists of sashimi, nigiri and a ton of rolls. You can order classics like the California Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll, but I love their loaded signature rolls, especially the Perfect Ten, Deep Fried Unagi, and Ah Sho rolls. If you want to try a variety of items consider ordering the ‘Dream Boat Sampler for 2’ where you’ll enjoy miso soup, tempura and a selection of rolls that are displayed on a beautiful Japanese boat. They also serve a killer Sunday brunch for an inexpensive price, tons of boozy beverages and all of your favourite items off the menu. Visit my Cayman’s Best Brunches list to know more!
